Next road trip was Coromandel<\/strong>! My work colleague and I decided to do a long weekend at farm stays and organic B&Bs. Of course when it comes to organic food, I do my research! And I found the most lovely farm\/B&B I could possibly imagine. But I will dedicate a special post just to that.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

5pm hits and we are off from work to a relaxing long weekend. We were not the only ones with plans to escape Auckland, so the so called highway was totally jammed. A normally 2 hour 30min drive ended up an almost 4 hour painful slow driving in the dark. Finally we arrived at our B&B and immediately slipped under the shower and off to the big comfy bed.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Next day our host awaits with the most incredible breakfast I had in a long time!!! But like I said, more about that in the next post. Our day was full of exciting sights. First it was exploring the Coromandel towns market, which consists of three mini stands with yummy goodies. Coromandel is home to a large collection of arts and craft people, with independently owned stores lining the main street. I had to drag my friend out of a store with beads and bracelets (she was back in it the very next dayJ). Coromandel is known for its amazing smoked fish and restaurants serving an array of locally inspired dishes.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Next stop was Driving Creek Railway<\/a>. It\u2019s a 1 hour return trip on a innovatively designed trains that takes you through replants native Kauri forest and includes several large viaducts as it climbs up to the amazing mountain-top terminus called the Eyefull Tower. This railway was an idea of one man who was a railway enthusiast and he saw the practical and environmental advantages of having a narrow-gauge railway system. He worked for 15 years on the railway construction; on 1990 it was finally licensed to carry fare-paying public.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Lunch time at Driving Creek Caf\u00e9<\/a> serving delicious and nutritious cuisine (organic and vegetarian), coffee to sing about, fresh veggie juices, incredible smoothies, and wonderfully wicked home baking and sweet treats. We munched down a simple meal in their glorious garden and searched around their second hand bookshop.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Next it was driving around the coast and reaching hidden beaches you can\u2019t possibly compare with anything! The most amazing thing I find with New Zealand is in a minute you find glorious rain forests and right next to it long endless sandy beaches! The most incredible one was actually called Stony Bay, why? Well it\u2019s stony. J We\u2019ve had a horrific ride to there, almost crashed twice on the gravel road, luckily while we were spinning; no one was on the other side of the road. Its hilarious how badly maintained are these off beaten roads, but I\u2019m hoping they will never change that \u2013 it\u2019s one of the reasons why New Zealand is still so untouched.<\/p>\n

It was time for dinner. Umu Restaurant was our choice and how delicious it was! We ordered the mussel platter and just loved it! It consisted of chowder, mussel pate, steamed mussels, fried mussels and the taste was superb! As the main we ordered NZ lamb and scotch fillet. I\u2019ve never been so full and by the half of it I couldn\u2019t do it anymore, but it was so good that I\u2019ve finished and loved every single bite! Dessert, pha \u2013 next time!<\/p>\n
