Chia Breakfast


First week of our arrival to New Zealand is behind us and we are exploring a bit of the culinary scene again. Our first stop was the famous French Market – La Cigale. I found my favorite breakfast right there! Green smoothie by Organic Mechanic and a Chia Bowl with Granola by The Breakfast Bench.

Here is the recipe for how I do my Chia Bowl with a Berry Swirl.

Chia Pudding

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 3 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Yacon
  • 1 Tbsp almond butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Blend your coconut milk with the almond butter, spices, salt and sweetener. Add the chia seeds and mix in a bowl and set aside in a fridge for two hours (or over night). Decorate with your favorite toppings.

Berry Swirl

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 2 TBSP unsweetened apple juice or coconut water

Place all ingredients in a small pot on the stove over medium heat. Bring to a boil and lower the heat, let simmer for some time. Turn off the heat and puree with an emersion blender or fork if you like it chunky. If you want it raw, just blend the ingredients together.

  2. Chia Pudding
  3. Berry Swirl
  4. Toppings (Goji berries, Mulberries, Fruit)


The French Market is really something special here; from home I always go really hungry so I can have a nice cup of coffee, smoothie and a choice of breakfast in the morning. There are several stalls that sell gluten free, sugar free, healthy goodies. Here are my favorites.

The Organic Mechanic – Keeping it simple, they have two to three smoothie options on offer. My favorite was The Athena, with lot of detox greens and a added scoop of vegan protein.


The Breakfast Bench – Here you can customize the breakfast you truly desire from a muesli base of gluten free quinoa, buckwheat and fig muesli, passion fruit coyo, or a coconut milk chia pudding, topped off with a plentiful selection of cacao nibs, coconut chips, nuts and fresh summer fruits.


Snack On Me Naturally – Paleo, Vegan sweets that were surprisingly tasty, moist & light. Definitely recommended for those who enjoy sweet treats, but want to stay healthy.


The Raw Kitchen

For all who want to know what we are up to… Right now we are in search for a perfect home (which is incredibly hard to find), right now we are house sitting for 3 weeks and after New Years we hope we will settle in cozy space we can call our own.
