We are still talking about beautiful and funky Matakana. Our day concluded at a wine tasting dinner at Plume. The restaurant is known for it’s fine dining, but the meals were quite disappointing and not that rich in taste as was the bill at the end.
We slept in a beautiful rustic barn conversion only minutes from Matakana village. Warm macracarpa wood lines the walls, which gives it a beautiful smell of timber. The old barn has been fitted out comfortably with fireside chairs for reading and comfortable couches to relax on, it offers all the necessities for a break from the busy city. The barn has a warm sunny deck with glorious views up the valley to Mt Tamahunga.
The old barn has 2 bedrooms with an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen, french doors lead out to an oversized deck with private grounds which offers fantastic country views. The barn also showcases fantastic art from some of our talented local artists.
You can even request a price for a B & B option, where a private chef will cook breakfast for you at a time suitable from locally produced product.

Next day was Vintage Market day – Indie Craft Market! It is a showcase of their finest independent (Indie) crafts, artists, vintage / eclectic collectors and designers. The focus is on high quality, ethically made and seasonal creations with the accent on Vintage and Collectible stalls. It’s really something special. To end your unique shopping spree, enjoy a homemade lamb stew with a quesadilla. Yummy!
